The Spanish bank BBVA has recognized La Junquera, a partner of the eTOMATO project, with one of the six Awards for the Best Sustainable Producers, an initiative that the bank has promoted in collaboration with El Celler de Can Roca to give visibility to local products committed to the environment and responsible production.

La Junquera has been selected from among more than 60 candidates from all over the national territory. BBVA has recognized the commitment to sustainability of a total of six Spanish producers. In addition to this company from Murcia, the financial institution has awarded Los Caserinos dairy products; fruits and vegetables from Verdcamp Fruits (Tarragona), Pomona Fruits (Lleida) and Mirabel Do Rosal (Pontevedra); and meat from Carnísima (Huesca).

Since 2013, BBVA and El Celler de Can Roca have worked together to generate a positive impact on society by launching different initiatives. On this occasion, the objective was to unite gastronomy and sustainability to help in the transition towards a sustainable life while supporting local producers. As a result of this union, the ‘Sustainable Gastronomy’ project was born, which in the midst of the outbreak of the pandemic took another step forward with the search for the best sustainable producers, farmers and ranchers in Spain through the BBVA Awards for the Best Sustainable Producers.La Junquera (Caravaca de la Cruz, Murcia) is a Murcian company that believes that a healthy and diverse ecosystem is the key to abundant, safe food with excellent flavor. La Junquera’s products and production methods are designed to have a positive footprint on carbon emissions, soil fertility, and biodiversity. Its main cultivation is cereals such as wheat, oats or rye, to which dried fruits such as walnuts, aromatic plants such as lavender and vegetables, potatoes and zucchini are added. “That BBVA and El Celler de Can Roca launch an initiative such as the BBVA Awards for the Best Sustainable Producers shows that the world is on the right track and that Spanish society is raising awareness when it comes to buying sustainable products´´. “Receiving this award has been a surprise. We are very excited about the repercussion that our products may have as part of the ‘Sustainable Gastronomy’ basket,”.
